Pushchair fabric trends for 2021

Pushchair fabrics are no longer limited to a few basic choices.

Picking a buggy was once a case of choosing between blacks or greys, bold colour blocks, or fun bright patterns.

Those options are still available and many parents now opt for unisex colours that can be used for more than one child if a sibling arrives later down the line.

Muted colour palettes

From a design perspective, dark and matte colours continue to be popular, with black, navy, slate grey and stone colours forming the base palettes.

To contrast dark designs, accents such as a rose gold or aluminium finish add subtle splashes of colour.

Parents are also looking to customise their strollers as an expression of their personal style. Subtle trims, removable add-ons such as sheepskin liners, or matching nappy bags using the same fabrics can help to create a unique buggy against the backdrop of a neutral base colour.

The biggest development in pushchair fabrics, however, is the technology used.

Year in and year out, technology used in pushchairs continues to evolve as brands innovate to meet the demands of ever-changing parents.

Today’s parents-to-be are looking for breathable, sustainable and machine washable textiles, to keep their precious passengers comfortable and safe. Practicality and convenience are what the busy family wants.

Additional padding and cushioning are becoming standard in pushchair fabrics too, as well as improved UV-protection and mosquito nets for warmer months.

A more eco-friendly approach

More eco-conscious manufacturers are incorporating bamboo and organic cotton materials into their upholstery or mattresses.
This not only gives extra comfort for the little one, but extends and durability for environmentally-conscious families.

In fact, the baby and child industry as a whole is becoming increasingly conscious of sustainability in pushchairs and prams, and brands are being asked to respond.

New models are using recycled materials and sustainable fabrics, offering spare parts to extend the life of pushchairs, as well as reducing packaging.

This is a trend that is set to continue, and we expect to see more attention being paid to sustainability in the pushchair market.
